Don’t you get scared to break the bottle made of glass?
Earlier I was the person who used to use plastic bottles for my daily water drinking goals. Not that it was non-breakable, but also they were not good for health. The water stored in plastic bottles mix it up with several micro-plastics that just make the water toxic to drink.
So recently, I got a new bottle – a glass water bottle, earlier I was avoiding to use it, but slowly I started to use that for my daily use.
After months of usage, when I was refilling it, a friend of mine asked me. “Don’t you get scared of breaking this bottle? what if it falls and breaks down?”
Her question was genuine, but it reminded me of something, something that I heard in the past, a story of a Pen.
It starts like this, So there was a person Raghu, who was very knowledgeable but also very clumsy, he used to always lose his things here and there. Even after trying to take care of everything, he still would lose one or two things a day. The most common thing that he kept on losing was, “His Pen”.
So one day while meeting his mentor, mentor asked him a pen, and he said, sorry I have lost it today, I have kept it somewhere, I have a bad habit of losing things, I am stupid. Mentor understood the whole situation, and he took him outside to a shop, there he asked the shopkeeper to show the costliest pen in the shop. Raghu was amazed, but he waited for his mentor to explain. The shopkeeper brought in the finest of the pens, it was gold plated and so beautiful one could just admire its beauty all the time. Mentor said, good we want this one, Please pack it. Raghu please pay for this. Raghu said “Sir… this is too costly.. I will lose it”, Mentor said, get it. Since Raghu has lot of respect for his mentor, he silently purchased the costliest pen the money could buy. Cut short to 3 years later. Raghu and his mentor met on a conference, Raghu was formerly dressed in suit. He came to his mentor and happily displayed “Sir, I have still kept this pen that you asked to get me that day” Along with the pen, I have learnt to keep care of other things as well. Now I do not lose anything. Mentor smiled and displayed his pen, that his mentor has asked him to keep. They both smiled and cherished the moment.
Mentor explained that there was nothing wrong with the man’s memory—his carelessness was simply a reflection of what he did not value.
The story teaches that people are naturally careful with things they value most, whether it’s money, time, health, or relationships. Carelessness usually shows a lack of appreciation, whereas assigning value to something ensures its care.
Similar to this story, handling the glass bottle, taught how to take care of the fragile things, how to be careful with not just bottle, but relations, time, money and trust of your loved ones.
So that was the story of my glass bottle 🙂 Here is the bottle. 🙂 Let’s see how many days it will be there with us.
